#PEOPLEWITHPURPOSE A series celebrating wonderful people, doing wonderful things, something the Japanese call 'IKIAGI'.

1. Hi! Please introduce yourself and let us know a little bit about you
Hi, I'm Maisy, a 25 year old perfectionist from Brighton. I'm a baker, predominantly making cake or anything containing sugar rather than a bread/savoury baker. When i'm not baking i'm in the gym or training at home to burn off all the cake calories/icing sugar fumes i'm convinced we inhale as bakers (insert eye roll). Health and fitness, believe it or not is my other passion. 2. What is your IKIAGI and how did you come to finding it, why you love it and how it makes you feel? My Ikiagi is of course baking... However it's not the career I thought I would go into. I spent my GCSE years convinced I would go into the fashion industry. I studied fashion and textiles at college and loved it, however after working in retail full time for 3 years I soon realised the fashion industry was too cut-throat and b**chy for me to fit into. 3. Tell us about what you used to do before your found your 'IKIAGI' , how that made you feel and why you knew it was time to change / If you are working your IKIAGI as a side hustle tell us how you work that around your day job.
I aimlessly began searching for jobs online, came accross an ad for a baking apprenticeship and thought, why not?!
From a very young age I have loved to bake so why not see if I could turn it into a career instead of a hobby? I applied, was offered a trial day and took with me the most delicious lime, chocolate and pistachio cake to show off my skill, it worked!
Sadly it wasn't the greatest apprenticeship... I'm essentially a self taught baker and it didn't teach me much, other than how not to treat people in business. Let's just say some people want an apprentice for the cheap labour. Despite this, it didn't dampen my love of baking, and for the passion to still be there after a year of breaking my back for next to nothing, it made me confident and incredibly happy that I'd found my Ikiagi!
4. Wow, so it was anything but 'a piece of cake'?! (sorry) But it sounds like you have had quite the journey...so, what happened next?! Years later after a little break, I was back baking again and for the greatest little cake shop in Brighton, Cielo Cakery. It was set up a year ago by my friend Jodie who I'm incredibly greatful to for giving me the opportunity to do what I love full time.
Baking is such an art for me and I've amazed myself along the way.
It constantly enables me to progress and challenges me on a daily basis. There are so many techniques, methods and tools I'm yet to explore which is incredibly exciting.
5. Tell us about your products/ services and what you offer and how can we find you and your yummy cakey delights please?! The confidence I have in my art (along with the unfortunate amount of time on my hands) has led me this week to create a personal business instagram page, BAKT by maisy, to showcase the cakes I create outside of Cielo. Whether that's a gooey brownie or blondie (my fave), a boozy pink gin cake, a chocolate lovers overload, or a little girl's birthday cake with the cutest unicorn named Squish on top... yes, I name my fondant creatures!
6.What is your dream for your business for the future?
I'm not entirely sure where my future will take me, I have hopes and dreams and things I would like to achieve, but at the moment I just know that providing people with pure sugary satisfaction is going to play a huge part in it and i'm looking forward to all the possibilities. Instagram Handle is @baktbymaisy *** Bakt is Norwegian for baked. I'm 1/4 Norwegian
Maisy is as sweet as her baked goods. I love people that have so much passion for what they do. I first met Maisy 5/6 years ago, we worked together and her bright and sparkly personality was evident from the get go. A beautiful woman with an intellegent mind, I never knew she had such an incredible talent until recently and I have been hooked on seeing her next creation ever since her first facebook post! I also love that her other passion is fitness. Maisy is based in my favourite British town, Brighton and I cannot recommend her cakes enough.
Whether you are celebrating a special occassion; birthday, christening, wedding, anniversary, or you just want to treat yourself / someone you are missing right now - why not order one of these absolutely stunning and delicious mastterpieces. Every cake Maisy creates is baked with love, care and attention. She really is an unrivlled talent and I personally think British Bake Off should be on the cards!
So if you are looking for a cake to wow your eyeballs and tastebuds, here you go folks, GET A SLICE OF THIS!
