What does it mean to be a woman?...
It means questioning EVERYTHING. Questioning if it’s right, if it’s wrong, if it’s too much, if it’s too little. Questioning ourselves, questioning what others will think.
Being a woman is full of expectation: to be sweet,to say yes, to do the right thing, to put others before ourself, to be married with kids by a certain age. We are just expected to HAVE kids, period. Oh, talking of periods... Woah there sister!
Over-emotional, over-hormonal, over-reacting, over-pleasing, over-heating bloody painful wrecks. Just.So.Over.It. But the show must go on. We don’t just write the show, book the tickets, arrange interval snacks & design the costumes, we’re the leading role, understudy, the entire cast.
Being a woman is having your ducks in a row, knowing your arse from your elbow & knowing those whos heads are stuck up their arse judge everything, yet allowing their thoughts to dig you in the ribs anyway.
Being a woman is being blind to everything that is great about ourself & focusing on things we hate (mainly our bodies) with a microscope, repeating the painful self scrutiny every single day like some kind of fucking self deprecating mantra.
Being a woman is about keeping up appearances & casting comparisons. It’s never ending, just like the constant #livingmybestlife insta scroll that you just can’t stop yourself from pawing. It’s not only ridiculous it’s complete mindfuckery.
Yea women need to stop this. We need to stop ALL of this.
So, what does it really mean to be a woman?
It means getting up, looking at ourself in the mirror knowing we make a difference.
That we can do whatever we want despite periods, hormones & emotions. We are more than that.
That instead of picking ourselves apart we love every piece of ourself & treat ourself like we do our best friend. Being a woman is knowing that if our ducks aren’t in a row it doesn’t matter, ducks float, thats enough.
Being a woman is about strength mentally & physically: It’s not harsh to say no, it’s not selfish to put ourselves first, it’s not important to tick off life events by certain birthdays & key to know our life is our business but what people think of us is none of our business 💗
Happy #internationalwomensday2020 may we celebrate women across the globe today and every day. Because everyday women are doing amazing things.
